Time and again, it happens - the need arises to hire that right fit candidate with the help of trusted expertise that can apply a concierge-like service model while also bringing expertise, and doing it all quickly and thoroughly. Enter Questfinder - our mission or, our ultimate “quest statement” is simply: to apply our full package (expertise, knowledge, skills and abilities) of offerings to serve our clients at a competitive rate as true partners toward a time sensitive successful hiring quest!

Maybe you’re a leader at an organization that just got word about an add to staff or expansion fueled by new growth and opportunity...

Maybe that top performer just left unexpectedly and you’ve to got to quickly replace that production with the right fit from the get go...

Or a similar situation to these occurs - then, if we fast forward a little until that moment the realization occurs that the wrong hire is made - ugh.  This actually happens more often in general than one might think.  One survey from Careerbuilder found that nearly 3 our of every 4 employers (74%) indicated that they had hired the wrong person for a position.

Stack the Deck In Your Favor - Help Avoid The HUGE Cost of a Mis-Hire

Many of us have experienced or observed the challenge that a bad hire can bring and know the cost is significant…how significant? To bring it to life a little:

  • The true cost of a bad hire = Expensive

  • Estimates vary out there depending on source, but one thing is clear - it's not cheap, especially when taking into account nearly all of the potential variables and domino effects making a bad hire can have over time.

  • A Careerbuilder survey found that employers reported an average cost of a mis-hire (jobs across levels) was approx. $14,900.

  • Another more in-depth and comprehensive study found that on average - that cost ranges from 4 (supervisor level for example) —> 27 (typically executive level) times the amount of the person’s salary (source: Chris Mursau and Bradford Smart, Topgrading (New York: Portfolio)).

  • More specifically research (from over 50 companies) showed the average cost of a mis-hire of a manager level individual earning $100,000/year was $1.5 million (source: Chris Mursau and Bradford Smart, Topgrading (New York: Portfolio)).

Typo? Actually, it’s not. Once the factors and the various total costs involved with hiring the mis-hire are listed and are quantified, the numbers start to pile up. Consider that those factors include:

  • On-boarding & Training - (initial investment in time and resources getting the person up to speed, equipment and office supply related expenses, etc.)

  • Productivity & Opportunity Costs - (potential loss of new business, ideas, lack of actual productivity, potential engagement issues, etc.)

  • Other - Salary, bonus, or other compensatory costs, not to mention hours of time

Bottom Line

The likely cost of getting that hire wrong is potentially a LOT more than what might be invested up front to help secure that hire in the first place. If that hire is the RIGHT one in the first place, there likely won’t be the cautionary tale example later on of missing on a hire that ended up costing a lot more in the way of dollars, productivity, time, and much more.

How Do You Avoid This?

Having an  effective plan of action with the proper elements to help combat that risk and to forge ahead smartly is key.  For the right client, part of that can start with partnering with us here at Questfinder Recruiting - where we'll bring key value-add service and an approach geared toward strong results - including:
